To Smell is a Verb
Updated: May 12
It is curious to review the collection of words we have found thus far describing the olfactory landscape. Surprisingly there are few verbs, mostly nouns to describe conditions or materials, and adjectives to describe a scent.
Is it possible to have other active words for the act of smelling? Are we so used to falling into the taxonomies of the current landscape of scent (e.g. a fragrance wheel). Many teach noses "how to smell" when it comes to industrial materials, could we have different verbs describing active or passive smelling?
